GIRLS CAN!!...CRATE

When Black History Month and S.T.E.A.M collide magic happens. If you follow me on Instagram or know us in real life you know S.T.E.A.M is life for Aya. What’s S.T.E.A.M you ask? Well, the acronym stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math and these are a few of her favorite things.

"WE WRITE FOR THE SAME REASON
THAT WE WALK, TALK, CLIMB MOUNTAINS OR
SWIM THE OCEANS - BECAUSE WE
CAN. WE HAVE SOME IMPULSE
WITHIN US THAT MAKES US WANT
TO EXPLAIN OURSELVES
TO OTHER HUMAN BEINGS
THAT'S WHY WE PAINT,
THAT'S WHY WE DARE
TO LOVE SOMEONE -
BECAUSE WE HAVE THE
IMPULSE TO EXPLAIN
WHO WE ARE."
-MAYA ANGELOU

Needless to say, when we ran across GirlsCanCrate on Instagram we both fell in love. GirlsCanCrate is a monthly subscription crate filled with amazing S.T.E.A.M fun and inspiration galore. The crates come fully loaded with everything you need to complete each project.... I mean everything scissors, markers, and all. Not only do they provide power images of women but they are also very diverse, Aya can open up a crate at any given month and see someone who looks like her. I also love the ease of being able to provide Aya with the stimulation she needs without having to leave the house. As a mother of three, I welcome all things that make raising this bunch a little smoother.

February's crate was all about the powerful poet Dr. Maya Angelou. Filled with fun facts and activities to go along with them Aya got to learn more about her history while also being able to be creative. There was an activity book, hands-on activities, which are her favorite, and so much more. Usually, her S.T.E.A.M projects are something she shares with her dad, but when her crate comes in the mail I make a point to share that time with her. It is all girl power! Even her little sister likes to get involved. Raising little black girls it's extremely important for me to instill in them that no matter what.... GIRLS CAN!
